Coronavirus or infamously known as the Covid-19 virus is now more of an epidemic. Literally, it has put a little over 50 million jobs both in travel and tourism industry at serious risk with travel opportunities now in a snail progress. Among the continents most affected by the situation is Asia, as per the World Travel and Tourism Council.

The impact it creates is still unknown until the epidemic lasts. Furthermore, she mentioned that these restrictions may complicate travel agendas by medical experts as well as the delivery of medical supplies.  There are approximately 850,000 people who are traveling every month from Europe to US which are equivalent to 3.4 billion dollars of monthly revenue for the country.

And out of the 50 million jobs that may be lost in this dire situation, about 30 million will affect people in Asia and 7 million in Europe while 5 in America while the rest are in other continents. The equivalent to this loss of 3-months travel ban can lead to massive reduction of jobs for around 12 to 14 percent according to WTTC.

They are also reaching out to governments in removing or simplifying visas as much as possible, introduce incentives and also, cut travel taxes by the time when the epidemic is under control.

According to Messina, as soon as the coronavirus epidemic is set under control, it is going to take another 10 months in an effort for the tourism sector to bounce back to its normal operational level.
