4 Essential Items to bring when going on a Hike
Perhaps, this is your first time going on a hike with friends or colleagues. Probably, it fires you up and gets you all excited for the day to come. However, just before you get all pumped up, make sure that you have the essential items in your backpack to make sure you’re hike-ready. So what are these essential items if you may ask?
Number 1. Appropriate Footwear
You don’t know the actual level of difficulty when you go out for a hike. When such happens, your feet will likely feel sore, especially if you’re not used to it. So before you leave, see to it that you will give it a pleasant experience by wearing a pair of shoes that provides you with good support, traction and of course, protection throughout the whole trip.
Number 2. GPS, Compass or Maps
While GPS units and smartphones are always within our hand’s reach, these devices are not totally reliable in the backcountry. In this regard, it is highly recommended to bring a compass and a paper map to serve as a backup. Obviously, you need to know how to read and use them.
Number 3. Water
As a general guideline, you should be drinking half a liter of water for every hour you are out in the wild, especially when you’re hiking in moderate terrain/temperature.
Make it a point that you’ve brought enough water for the entire duration of your trip. At the same time, you should know in advance how you can treat water while you are out.
Number 4. Bring Foods
No, you don’t bring regular foods you have in your pantry. Instead, the foods we are talking about here are the calorie-dense ones as this helps in fueling your body to complete the hike. It is recommended to carry extra so you’re ready if you need to be out for long.
But above all else, you need to practice good posture for your hike. A good posture ensures that your blood is flowing and that energy is delivered all throughout your body. How can you do this?
